Freestyle motocross athlete Mike Metzger broke the world record for the longest motorcycle back flip when he spiraled over the fountains at Caesars Palace on his motorcycle on May 4, and, in the process, established himself as a legend in the motocross arena.

Metzger’s 125-foot jump exceeded the previous record of 108 feet, set by Jeremy “Twitch” Stenberg at the 2005 Summer X Games in Los Angeles.

The Caesars Palace jump was the brainchild of officials at ESPN, sponsor of the sport’s summer and winter X Games, who had been soliciting opinions from various motocross riders to find out if the jump was possible. “It’s time to make it possible,” Metzger said when they contacted him.
